Rockstar Gears Up for GTA 6 Multiplayer with Cfx.re and Alt:V Talent
Cfx.re and Alt:V's expertise to elevate GTA 6's multiplayer experience to new heights as Rockstar gears up to turn GTA 6 multiplayer into a game-changer.
Over the past year, Rockstar Games has started to slowly reveal more and more about Grand Theft Auto 6.
However, hidden amongst the most heavy-hitting GTA 6 news so far are two facts that even hardcore fans have missed: Rockstar now owns Cfx.re, and at least two former Alt:V employees are working on GTA 6.
Cfx.re are the creators of the FiVeM and RedM multiplayer customization mods, two of the most popular mods on the market that open the doors to endless possibilities for GTA Online and Red Dead Online, respectively.
FiveM, in particular, is one of the biggest mods for GTA 5. It's responsible for driving a huge chunk of its still-robust sales figures.

By acquiring Cfx.re late last year, Rockstar all but confirmed that it's doubling down on its mod policy change from November 2022.
But, there's a difference between including mods by the roleplay creative community and hiring the actual people behind them to work on GTA 6, which is what this post on Reddit in claiming.
An anonymous user stated in a now-deleted post that two former alt:V employees are part of the GTA 6 development team: Leon B and Fabian Terhost.
By buying and hiring the people behind GTA Roleplay, Rockstar is hitting multiple birds with one stone: they're opening the doors for players to create more roleplay scenarios while paving the way for a possible official version of the many popular fan-made roleplay servers that already exist for GTA Online today.
As a bonus, the folks over at Cfx.re and Alt:V understand how the server backend works better than most software devs.
If they worked their magic without "official" support from Rockstar, who knows what will happen now that they've got the green light from the makers of GTA?
TLDR; this is a pretty big deal for GTA fans, especially those who've been roleplaying for years. It's a positive sign for what's coming to GTA 6 and we could get a glimpse of it as early as later this year in GTA Online.
GTA 6 is currently deep into development with a Fall 2025 release window target. While details remain scarce, these moves make it clear that Rockstar has larger expectations for GTA multiplayer over the next decade.
For now, GTA fans can look forward to the next GTA Online update, which sounds like it took inspiration from this canceled GTA 5 feature.
