Brace for the next GTA game trailer that’s been years in making

From GTA BOOM Wiki

Rockstar Games gears up for the long-awaited GTA 6 trailer release in December.

A little over a decade after Grand Theft Auto V shocked the world, its highly anticipated sequel, Grand Theft Auto VI, is finally happening. Rockstar Games has confirmed that it will drop the first trailer for the open-world title in early December, albeit the exact date remains unknown, as of the moment.

No one will argue against you if you called Grand Theft Auto 6 the most anticipated video game of all time, but with a new title comes immense pressure. GTA 5 is a landmark game that has left quite an impression. But, since the turn of the decade, fan impatience has gone from bad to worse.

It all boiled over last year when Rockstar confirmed its existence a few months before falling victim to a controversial security breach that saw developmental footage from the game go online.

Over a year later, Rockstar, still silent on everything about GTA 6 outside of its latest statement, is taking control of the narrative by revealing its most ambitious project yet. Many hope Rockstar doesn't fall victim to another leak within the next few weeks.

In a thread on X (formerly known as Twitter) , Rockstar's president, Sam Houser, celebrated the company's 25th anniversary, before ending it with a statement that continues to reverberate all over the internet: "We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you."

While the trailer reveal doesn't have an official date, The Game Awards is on December 7. Many believe that it will be where the trailer will debut. Houser didn't specifically call GTA 6 by its now-infamous name either. As a result, some remain reserved because of the specific term used, "the next Grand Theft Auto." Then again, Rockstar hasn't used "GTA 6" in anything official outside of rumored leaks and easter eggs, including the aforementioned official announcement last year.

Nevertheless, the announcement remains surprising, albeit one that lost a bit of oomph. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported less than 24 hours prior that an official statement was coming this week, with a trailer following a month later in December.

Again, Rockstar hasn't confirmed that GTA 6 will appear at the upcoming awards show, hosted by Geoff Keighley. But, given that it's usually where most developers reveal their latest titles, GTA 6's appearance would be fitting. Then again, Rockstar's never been one to follow the norm, so who knows?

Rockstar Games has already taken this long to announce GTA 6, we're pretty sure it deserves as much time as it needs to release it.

GTA 6's release window has been set between April 2024 and March 2025 since earlier this year after Take-Two Interactive told investors that it's expecting a huge uptick in profit for FY2025 — a fact that would be near-impossible to achieve without the help from what's presumably going to be the most expensive video game to make of all time.

GTA 5 successfully set a still-standing entertainment industry by making well over a billion in its first three days and annually grossing as much since, all but guaranteeing GTA 6 would happen, eventually. But, the actual release date may be later than expected. Rockstar might "delay" GTA 6 to Fall 2025, outside of the FY2025 release window. In this case, the official release date announcement may not come until next year. This is speculation based on Rockstar's history of aiming for a Spring release for its two biggest titles, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, only to delay them.

Fingers crossed, Rockstar avoids the backlash usually associated with delays and gives GTA 6 a Fall 2025 release window, with the PC and Nintendo Switch 2 port coming in Fall 2026.

GTA 6 will have to sell a billion in a day or two (literally, not figuratively) to meet if not exceed expectations.

It's unclear what will happen to GTA Online in the interim but audiences can look forward to an influx of marketing-related events to drum up hype and excitement for GTA 6. The latest GTA Online update is now available for all players to enjoy, with GTA+ subscribers getting access to both GTA remaster trilogy and a pair of classic GTA titles alongside the monthly freebies.
