GTA Plus Might Be Coming to the Nintendo Switch

From GTA BOOM Wiki

Years ago, one of the more prevalent talking points was Grand Theft Auto 5 being on the Nintendo Switch, which might finally come true.

Rockstar Games may be planning to bring its current-gen console exclusive subscription service, GTA+, to an unexpected platform: the Nintendo Switch. This discovery comes from @TezFunz2, who spotted an updated list of available platforms for "Games Included with GTA+" that now includes the Switch. However, the modified version is not yet live on the official page.

GTA+, which recently saw a price increase to $7.99/£6.99 per month, has been exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X since its launch two years ago. This decision has been met with criticism, especially after Rockstar locked certain Grand Theft Auto Online features behind the monthly paywall — making them completely inaccessible on PC.

The potential addition of GTA+ to the Nintendo Switch raises questions, as the platform is not typically associated with GTA's playerbase. Currently, only three GTA games are available on the Switch: the remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas, collectively known as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition. Plus, the Switch is an outgoing, eighth-generation console due for replacement.

Aside from the remastered GTA trilogy, L.A. Noire and Red Dead Redemption are also available on the Switch.

This development could hint at several possibilities:

  • More GTA or Rockstar titles coming to the Switch
  • GTA+ expanding to other platforms like PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC
  • Grand Theft Auto 5 finally making its way to the Switch after years of speculation
  • Grand Theft Auto 6 potentially releasing on the Switch 2, either at launch or around the same time as the PC port

The exclusion of PC from GTA+ remains a mystery, but it does align with Rockstar's pattern of snubbing PC players.

Making GTA 6 run on a presumably powered-down portable console like the next Nintendo platform will take a herculean optimization effort.

While these points are all speculative for now, signs point to a Switch-related announcement and the potential release of the PC port of Red Dead Redemption during or before Take-Two Interactive's earnings call next month.
