GTA Online Players Want Proper North Yankton Expansion in GTA Online
GTA Online's Halloween update is a hit and now fans are calling for a fuller experience in the place where everything started.
You could argue that Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto 5 are in their waning years, with Rockstar Games preparing to twilight both games as it prepares to release Grand Theft Auto 6, its replacement for the next decade or so. However, it appears that Rockstar doesn't intend to let GTA Online ride off into the sunset with just a whimper, as evidenced by the most recent update.
While the "end" of GTA Online's content support is still far out, many other games at this point would be on life support. Instead, Rockstar is still pumping out updates that are not only substantial, but outright catering to what fans are hyped for. In this case, North Yankton and Zombies.
To no one's surprise, this year's GTA Online Halloween update is its most popular yet. In fact, so many people are playing GTA Online right now that Rockstar has had to move its goalposts, asking players to kill even more zombies and offering better rewards.
Amidst its popularity, one thing that stands out, and that nearly every player appears to be asking for, is a chance to revisit North Yankton that doesn't involve slaying zombies. Ludendorff is more popular a location than Rockstar seems to think.
Technically, there have always been ways to return to GTA 5's starting point, but it involves breaking the game. It would be fitting for Rockstar to save its final GTA Online update to bring players back to where everything started.
The numbers do indeed make sense. As pointed out by @TezFun2, nearly 900,000 players have played the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival mode in 48 hours (it's more than 1.2 million players now), something that took previous updates like Assault on Cayo Perico (25 days), Assault on ATT-16 (37 days), Cluckin' Bell Farm (13 days), and Last Dose (6 days), much longer.
If nothing else, Rockstar has already planted the seed to make this happen. North Yankton is already available as a separate map in GTA Online, thanks to the Halloween update. While things in game development are never as easy as they seem, making the area accessible without the Halloween content should be simpler than before.
The rest of the GTA Online version of North Yankton is pretty barebones at the moment, but who's to say that Rockstar doesn't plan on updating it? If they didn't already, they probably should now considering how many players are enjoying the newest GTA Online update.
Speaking of GTA, one of the franchise's former lead developers shed some light on why Bigfoot wasn't in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
