Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Date Remains Unchanged, On Track for Fall 2025
It looks like the video game industry will continue holding its breath while waiting for more official Grand Theft Auto 6 news.
Take-Two Interactive dropped both good news and bad news in its most recent earnings call. According to its CEO, Strauss Zelnick, Grand Theft Auto 6's release date hasn't changed at all. The bad news? We still don't know exactly when GTA 6 is coming out.
As part of its second quarter financial results, Zelnick shared on Wednesday how GTA 6 will still launch in Fall 2025, as already confirmed back in May and re-iterated in a subsequent earnings call. The first GTA 6 trailer finally dropped last December, breaking viewership records a few days later and earning the title of the second-most-viewed video game trailer of all time.
While Zelnick's latest update about GTA 6 isn't the biggest revelation, there's still a positive side to it — Rockstar has a history of delaying games several times before their eventual release. Zelnick's reassurance to investors that GTA 6 will be available to play in Fall 2025 as part of the company's Fiscal 2026 lineup—the financial year starts in April 2025 and ends in March 2026—means that he's confident that the game isn't going to be delayed at all.
Unfortunately, the release of Take-Two's earnings call marks the end of the 365-day cycle where we last got something substantial that's related to GTA 6. The best-case scenario here is that Rockstar wants to focus on making sure that GTA 6 lives up to the expectations.
By keeping things close to its chest and putting all its resources towards GTA 6's development instead of working on a second trailer, Rockstar will have as much time as it needs for GTA 6, especially after it asked for all employees to come back to the office to resume work on the game.
As the drought of GTA 6 news continue, fans have looked to other sources for new updates regarding the game. For example, a former Rockstar developer who left the studio mid-way through GTA 6's development has only had good things to say about the game. This can only bode well for those expecting a lot from a game that has other video game developers and publishers holding their breath.
Rockstar has also done an excellent job keeping active GTA fans busy with its new updates to Grand Theft Auto Online. The standalone online portion of GTA 5 is fresh off its best month yet with more year to come over the next few months, including a huge winter update and the PC port of Grand Theft Auto 5: Expanded and Enhanced.
