The new GTA Online update is one of its biggest yet
If you've been waiting to find out what's next for GTA Online, we've got good news for you.
Rockstar Games announced the latest update for GTA Online, Criminal Enterprises, alongside a new trailer. What's interesting is that Rockstar is drawing parallels to real-life events in the free update. Case in point, San Andreas, which is based in Los Angeles, finds itself in an economic crisis born of the increasing gas prices, greedy corporations, and a heatwave that's making it too hot to play video games.
Okay, we just made that last part up, but still — the point remains that the next GTA Online update hits close to home.
We'll know more for sure about what the Criminal Enterprises DLC will bring once it arrives on July 26. But, judging from the blog post, it's the kind of update that GTA Online needs to stay relevant and keep audiences occupied until GTA 6 comes out. We're also interesting to see what Rockstar meant when it said that the update will give players "more choice in how they climb their way up the criminal ranks."
Unfortunately, while the Criminal Enterprises update is good news for GTA Online players, we can't say the same for Red Dead Online players. Rockstar already confirmed that it is "shelving" Red Dead Online in favor of GTA Online and GTA 6. Even so, it feels different reading about the studio's decision to nix Red Dead Online, especially when the update for GTA Online comes soon after the aforementioned announcement.
Hopefully, Rockstar has plans to make it up to Red Dead Redemption fans. Who knows? A couple of the recent job listings Rockstar posted could be for the next-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2. A man can certainly dream.
