Red Dead Redemption is one of the best-selling video games in history with close to fifty million copies sold in four years. Rockstar Games knows that it will still continue selling well over the next few years, especially if it releases a next-gen version for the Xbox Series S/X and the PS5. Unfortunately, we just found out that Rockstar has given up on its plans for a "better-looking" version of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The latest rumor to come out from the Wild West is that Rockstar isn't working on a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2 anymore.

Rockstar never said that it had a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2, but most of us assumed anyway. After all, if Rockstar updated GTA 5 for the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, why wouldn't it do the same for Red Dead Redemption 2, right? Both are some of the best-selling games of all time. Even though GTA 5 has sold more, Rockstar would be leaving a lot of money on the table by not giving Red Dead Redemption 2 a handful of enhancements for the new flagship consoles from Microsoft and Sony.
What's even worse is that Rockstar also reportedly canceled an "Enhanced Rockstar Editor." All of these new cancelation revelations come just days after we found out that Rockstar will no longer release a remaster of GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption, which just stings.
Rockstar only has GTA V for the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X as well as GTA Online to tide us all over until GTA 6 comes out. If that's not putting all of your eggs inside one basket, we don't know what is. If it's any consolation, all the leaks we've received about GTA 6 so far suggest that it will deliver. For example, GTA 6 will use the RAGE 9 engine. In addition, the single-player campaign sounds straight out of Netflix's Narcos.
Besides, GTA 6 isn't the only reason why Rockstar changed its launch pipeline. Don't forget, the GTA Trilogy remasters bombed hard. Rockstar would probably prefer not to go through the same thing again so it wouldn't have to outsource the remasters of its beloved games and avoid sullying its reputation. For what it's worth, Rockstar isn't closing its doors on all the cancelations. We are hoping that Rockstar will revisit the canceled games as soon as GTA 6 hits the market.
