There might still be hope for the canceled GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption remasters

From GTA BOOM Wiki

Don't give up on your dreams of seeing remasters of GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption just yet.

We recently reported that Rockstar Games has abandoned its original plans to remaster the second-most recent installments of the GTA and Red Dead Redemption franchises. But, if we believe what Kotaku's sources told them, there's still a chance that we'll see the canceled remasters in the future.

The popular video website notes that Rockstar is focusing "its resources and energy on its next big game, Grand Theft Auto 6," while waiting for people to forget the disastrous GTA trilogy remasters. In the same report, Kotaku added that Rockstar might revisit the idea for the GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption remasters once it's finished making GTA 6.

Unfortunately, we don't know when that is happening, so it will be a long wait.

Red Dead Redemption holds up surprisingly well if you play it on the Xbox Series S/X.

Rockstar isn't new to controversies. For example, Red Dead Redemption shed light on some of the publisher's unethical work practices. Meanwhile, GTA 4 was criticized for its violence and for letting players go drunk driving. However, despite the negativity surrounding both games, GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption still went on to become commercial successes and won several video game accolades. We can't say the same for the last year's GTA Trilogy remasters, which remain universally reviled.

In light of the recent events, Rockstar will want to err on the side of caution and pool its resources towards making GTA 6 the best game possible with minimal bad press.

In the meantime, GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption are available on the Xbox Series S/X via backwards compatibility. Both games will benefit from better loading times, frame rates as well as graphics on Microsoft's next-gen console. The improvements aren't exactly the same in scope as an actual remaster, but they'll have to do while waiting for Rockstar.
