Rockstar Games Teases Summer DLCs For GTA Online Including GTA 3 Anniversary
Rockstar Games may have just announced the release date for Grand Theft Auto 5 and Online's PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S ports, but that doesn't mean we aren't getting anything new until then. A slew of DLCs are headed to GTA Online in the coming weeks and months, filling the summer with plenty of content — and the 20th anniversary of GTA 3 is around the corner too.
GTA Online really is the gift that keeps on giving, going stronger and stronger ever since its launch despite coming up on its 8th anniversary. We're guessing the game will still be a force to be reckoned with when it turns 10, and Rockstar is bound to have something major in play — but we are getting way ahead of ourselves.
In the coming weeks and months, new content updates will be shaking up old favorites. Some players might think that thrusting older modes into the limelight is a bit cheap, but considering how rapidly the GTA Online population is growing, there are millions of players out there who haven't experienced some content that just a few years old because it isn't in the vogue and thus queueing for those matches is impossible.
These refreshes, that we can expect to get soon, will be a perfect chance to give older activities a new breath of life, allowing many players to experience them for the first time. Deadline: Return of the Shotaro will be bringing 7 new maps to GTA Online's Tron homaging light cycle battle Adversary Mode, while 8 new Stunt Race courses and several new Survival maps will also bring these older fan-favorite activities back into focus.
Don't worry though — there is brand new content on the way, too. Rockstar is being cagey about the specifics, but in contrast to the increasingly outlandish DLCs we've gotten lately, the next major expansion will get back to the roots of it all: the cars. A brand new underground car-meet location where players won't need to worry about aggression from police nor other players will be unearthed, giving you a perfect place to show off your rides in peace.
This resurgence of car culture will have greater repercussions too — expect the street racing scene to be revitalized, and demand for stolen vehicles will skyrocket. When you are done burning rubber in Los Santos and admiring the cars of your friends and enemies, it's time to jump into complex multi-part robbery missions with specially outfitted getaway vehicles.
Rockstar is also gearing up to recognize the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 3, which kickstarted the 3D era of the franchise, became an eternal genre defining classic enshrined in the pantheon of gaming, and brought the franchise to even newer heights of popularity and critical acclaim.
While our greatest wish would be a bona fide remaster, it likely won't be happening — instead there will probably be a sale across the myriad platforms that GTA 3 has reached over the years, and expect some in-game goodies paying homage the title. Rockstar has already confirmed freebies for GTA Online players referencing the old classic.
Stay tuned for further details as they come to light about these upcoming GTA Online updates!
