Lost GTA 5 Documentary Uncovered: Behind-the-Scenes of a Masterpiece

From GTA BOOM Wiki

The lead actors of GTA 5 have spilled the beans about a secret documentary that captured the game's development.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the most celebrated and successful video games of all time, but it turns out there was an entire behind-the-scenes documentary on its making that was never released.

According to the game's lead actors, Rockstar Games had cameras rolling throughout the development process, capturing all the drama, challenges, and hilarious antics that went into creating the open-world masterpiece.

Streamily recently hosted a Q&A session (first spotted by Twitter user @GameRollGTA) where Ned Luke (the voice and motion capture actor for protagonist Michael De Santa) let the cat out of the bag, saying, "What's nuts is we had that behind-the-scenes camera going the whole time and they never did anything with it. That would have been gold."

His co-stars Shawn Fonteno (Franklin Clinton) and Steven Ogg (Trevor Phillips) corroborated the story, with Ogg adding, "I think at one point, didn't we discuss like how cool to make the making of...so at this point we'd have the documentary on the making of GTA."

It would certainly have been a tantalizing prospect — a no-holds-barred look at the inner workings of Rockstar during one of the most ambitious and challenging game developments in history. The trio of lead actors clearly had a blast working on the project, with Luke describing the experience as "so funny" on set. One can just imagine the chaos, creativity, and camaraderie that must have been recorded.

Unfortunately, it seems Rockstar ultimately decided not to move forward with the GTA V documentary plan. The reasons why remain shrouded in mystery. Perhaps the developer felt the behind-the-scenes footage was too revealing or didn't want to divert resources away from the main game. Or maybe Rockstar simply lost interest as the project dragged on.

Whatever the case, it's a real shame this gold mine of GTA 5 history was never revealed to the world. Fans would have undoubtedly lapped it up, eager to pull back the curtain on one of gaming's most secretive and successful studios.

Now, over a decade after the game's release, it seems this unfinished documentary is destined to remain locked away in Rockstar's vaults forever. Our hope is that one day, this lost footage will see the light of day. GTA fans certainly deserve it.
