New GTA V First-Person Gameplay Footage
Back in September, we heard rumors about an official first-person mode in GTA V, and now it's been confirmed. Today, IGN revealed a special preview of the remastered version of GTA V played in first-person. This is something many fans have been asking for, and in the past, mods have created first-person Grand Theft Auto experiences. According to Animation Director Rob Nelson, the power of the PS4 and Xbox One, along with the extra time to work on new features since the main game is already complete, allowed them to try this for the first time.
So, ready to see what it's like to play GTA V from a new perspective? Here's the first-person trailer.
Making GTA V playable in first-person isn't as simple as it might sound. Animations and the game world had to be re-done in order to work properly with the new view, to the point where Nelson says "pretty much everything" needed to be changed to make it a quality experience. Approximately 3,000 new animations were needed for the weapons, and each playable character has his own animations to make them distinct. This might be one of the things contributing to the game's massive size.
"All those animations are new when you switch to first-person, because it all has to be animated to the camera, to make it feel like a proper first-person experience that I think people would expect. All the timings have to be re-evaluated."
From driving cars with unique dashboards to flying a helicopter with goggles on, every element of the game has the details necessary to make first-person gameplay truly immersive. You can also change the control scheme to make it closer to first-person shooter controls, or change settings so that some parts are handled in third-person. And of course, if first-person isn't your preference, you can play the entire game in third-person just like the originals.
