Rockstar games has released an action-packed trailer for GTA Online's upcoming DLC, Transform Races. As much of a buzz-phrase "action-packed" has become, it's truly apt for this particular video as it changes frame and camera angle faster than the game itself gains sales, which is saying a lot.
Transform Races are yet another riff on the good (now) old formula of stunt races introduced in Cunning Stunts, this time making things fresh by having you warp instantaneously between various vehicles types mid-race. Thanks to the trailer, we now know exactly how this will look like.
The transformation itself will be seamless and instant, as players drive, fly or... well, uh, navigate their boat over large checkpoints with an icon denoting the next form. In a puff of colorful smoke, they instantly turn into the next given vehicle. Sometimes these checkpoints are placed midair after a long jump with land vehicles, only to transform the racers into planes, and other variations exist as well. Jet skis warp into cars warp into helicopters warp into bikes and so on.
In addition to the transformations themselves, players will also be teleporting across large distances, sometimes depositing them at random sections of the course. All players will be transported to the same section, naturally, but you won't necessarily know which section the destination is when the race starts.
Rockstar has also shared with us a release date for the DLC, which will be arriving on the 17th of October in GTA Online, on a Tuesday as per tradition. It will likely bring with it a new vehicle, maybe more, and you can generally expect Rockstar to release a new Adversary Mode alongside it as well.
