GTA Online Gets New Custom Car and Adversary Mode

From GTA BOOM Wiki

Grab your virtual wallets, folks, it's update time! GTA Online has been expanded yet again with a new high-end vehicle that can be customized at Benny's Original Motorworks as well as an all new Adversary Mode. Of course, a handful of discounts are also being gifted to the players as usual.

The new car on offer is the Dewbauchee Specter, once again confirming that the spelling used by Americans is awkward and unwieldy. It also once again confirms that Rockstar in fact isn't price-gouging players, as it is one of the more moderately priced custom sportscar in GTA Online.

The Specter's stock version, which looks damn good in its own right, will set you back GTA$ 599,000, while the upgrade to custom will add an additional GTA$ 252,000 on top of that. Coming in well under a million plus additional upgrades makes this a very wallet-friendly ride, and the fact that it looks super slick just makes things even better.

Imagine the most exclusive two-door sports car on the planet. Now imagine gutting it, and transforming it into a lightweight, liveried, carbon-fiber racer. Why, you ask? Well, why did we go to the moon? Why do we build to the stars? Why do we watch celebrity sex tapes instead of proper porn? Exactly. Now stop asking perfectly legitimate questions and get out your damn wallet.

With such a treat of a price, you might expect the Specter to drive like ass. Luckily, that isn't the case, and while the Specter might not quite measure up to any of the supers, in its own class it is a damn good ride, especially when upgraded and in the right hands. Keep in mind that the Benny's upgrade tweaks performance, and while it doesn't make the car "worse", you will need to put more effort into learning how to drive it well.

That said, the stock Specter has really good handling, and car enthusiasts will absolutely love the sound of its engine. That said, one drawback is that it has no hood or trunk that can be opened, but that shouldn't be a major issue. You likely won't be winning too many races with this thing unless you're a skilled driver, but we'll be damned if it doesn't make for a stylish freemode cruiser.

The game has also been expanded with yet another Adversary Mode. With recent heavy hitters such as Deadline and Vehicle Vendetta, this week's Collection Time might seem pretty soft and light. There are no sci-fi vehicles or power-ups here, instead we're treated to a slightly tweaked version of team deathmatch.

Every player starts the game with a point. There are many points like it, but that one is theirs. If you kill someone, you get their point. If you kill someone else, you also get their point, leaving you with three points. If someone kill you, they will get all three. The more people you kill, the more points you will have, and the more points your own killer will be awarded with. Naturally, the person who survives with the most points is the winner. If only life were this simple.

While this mode seems to take things safe, as it's pretty much impossible to mess up the balance with something like this, it does it at the expense of spectacle, which is usually what makes or breaks an Adversary Mode. An interesting twist would have been giving everyone powerful weapons starting out, and the more points you have, the weaker your gun will become to add difficulty.

Collection Time is unlikely to become a hit Mode like Deadline and Vehicle Vendetta did, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't spend some time, say, a few weeks, with it. After all, Rockstar is offering double RP and cash for all matches of the Mode through the 30th of January.

That isn't the only double RP and cash event running in GTA Online, so don't worry if Adversary Modes aren't your jam. All Biker Clubhouse contracts (unfortunately not Business payouts) and Special Vehicle Jobs will yield twice as much cash. While this may not be a big deal for the former, some of the Special Vehicle jobs actually pay out pretty damn well, even without the bonus.

Just in case the price of the Specter wasn't enticing enough already, you can always take advantage of a neat 25% discount on all Benny's upgrades, further decreasing the sum you have to fork over for the new ride. Executive Garages, the Auto Shop addon, Bikers Businesses and all the tattoos added with the Import/Export DLC also enjoy the same markdown.

As always, a new Premium Race has zoomed in as well. This time around, all the top racers will be duking it out on the Stunt Race Chiliad. Don't worry about aggressive players, as the race is locked to non-contact. Remember folks, first place walks away with $100k, but everyone get triple RP.

Will you be picking up GTA Online's newest car, the Specter?
