Dr. Dre Working On GTA Music According To Snoop Dogg

From GTA BOOM Wiki

News of Dr. Dre's involvement with a Grand Theft Auto project has already broken, but the source was just a fleeting comment on an Instagram post — there wasn't much reason to doubt it. However, now we've got some legit confirmation from fellow artist Snoop Dogg.

The only question that remains is what sort of GTA content is Dr. Dre making music for?

Snoop Dogg was speaking to Rolling Stone, and the artist confirmed that friend and fellow artist Dr. Dre is currently producing music for Grand Theft Auto, though specifics are still scarce. Back when the news first popped up, the comments stated that it is for a "new GTA game" but often sources outside the industry can be a bit confused about what content is being released and when.

I do know [Dr. Dre's] in the studio. I do know he's making great f&$#ing music. And some of his music is connected to the GTA game that's coming out. So I think that that will be the way that his music will be released, through the GTA video game.

There are plenty of options, though we can probably narrow down the number of candidates. Upcoming releases include Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition, Grand Theft Auto 5: Expanded and Enhanced, more DLC for GTA Online and the unannounced but obviously happening GTA 6.

Since music license expirations likely mean that GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas won't ship with all the original music in their remastered forms, however since the remasters are launching on the 11th of November, it is way too late to still be producing music for them at this point.

GTA 5 might be subject to similar music changes with the next-gen — well, current-gen at this point — ports, but when it comes to contemporary games, Rockstar usually just releases new songs in an update that they licensed since, which has happened to GTA 5 before already. It's plausible, but not our first guess.

Dr. Dre Working On Gta Music According To Snoop Dogg
Dr. Dre already had a cameo appearance in GTA Online.

GTA 6 is the big game in the IP's future that everyone's itching to hear news about, and it's entirely possible that Dr. Dre is working on music for the upcoming next numbered installment in the series. With most guesses as to its release predicting 2025 at the soonest, there is still plenty of time in the development cycle to get the music produced, mixed and added to the game.

However, our best guess is that the artist is working on more GTA Online content — Dr. Dre already appeared in a cameo role in The Cayo Perico Heist, so it would make sense to feature him even more in the game in upcoming content. Rockstar sure as hell isn't planning to stop making DLC for Online, so he's got plenty of chances to have his work appear in the game.

Either way, if Dr. Dre is currently in the studio producing this music, we'll probably need to wait quite a while before we hear any of it.
