San Andreas Re-release is the Android Port
Xbox 360 players were pretty excited when Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was re-released for the Xbox 360 with achievement support, 720p resolution, and better draw distance than the original version. Reception to the new version was positive, and fans seemed satisfied with what Rockstar gave them... until Thursday.
Eurogamer's Digital Foundry took a close look at San Andreas HD and realized it's a port of the Android version, which released last December. It has better draw distance, but otherwise remains the same.
The article cites some valid criticisms, such as an unstable frame rate capped at 30 fps, but the harsh fan reaction seems mainly concerned with its very nature as a mobile port. Some have even said Rockstar should have left the Xbox Original version on the Xbox Live Store, instead of replacing it.
We didn't hear any major criticisms of the new version when it was released. If it was a good game then, it still is, no matter what version it's a port of. On the other hand, it is pretty recent, so maybe the frame rate issues are only now coming to light.
What do you think? Does knowing the new Xbox 360 Games on Demand version of San Andreas is a mobile port diminish your enthusiasm for it?
