Rockstar Not Interested in GTA V on PS4
Speaking to The Guardian, Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser has said that he isn't interested in bringing Grand Theft Auto V to the Playstation 4 (which also presumably means we won't see it for the Xbox One either).
While Houser did say that Rockstar Games is interested in next-generation gaming technology (being one of the most popular gaming studios on the planet, you'd expect so...) his comments in respect of GTA 5 making a next-generation appearance seem pretty clear — they aren't working on it.
Of course we're interested. But no, not in terms of GTA, because we're always working on the current game. We look at the tech at a more practical level: what will be ready for which game that we're working on further down the line. We don't have another GTA in development, we don't work on three of these games at a time. That would be phenomenally depressing. So, in terms of GTA, no. We get pitched by the hardware manufacturers on what they're planning to do and our tech guys come up with ideas on how that could be used. Does this influence design decisions? Of course. But we're not sat there fantasising about 10 years down the line. We're so busy with what we're doing right now.
So if you've held out purchasing GTA V because you're expecting an imminent PS4/Xbox One announcement, we think it's time to go out and buy a current-gen copy NOW. That said, if you read a little into Houser's comments above, it's easy to see GTA 5 arriving on the PS4 and Xbox One in a year or more. They just clearly aren't in any rush.
