Grand Theft Auto 5 Sets New Lifetime Sales Milestones Amidst GTA 6 Excitement

From GTA BOOM Wiki

It appears Grand Theft Auto fans still can't get enough of the 2013 game even though the next installment in the series is right around the corner.

For decades, Grand Theft Auto has been one of the constants in the gaming industry. Several franchises have come and gone, but GTA remains the same trend-setting controversial series it is today as it was in the late 90s.

But while GTA has achieved and collected literally ever gaming accolade there is, it still continues to set fresh records.

Case in point, as much of the world looks forward to the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, the owner of Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, confirmed that GTA 5 has added many millions more to its tally.

Take-Two insists that GTA 6 won't be pushed out of its 2025 release window.

According to Take-Two's latest earnings report, GTA 5 moved five million more copies in the last quarter, which means that it's now just 5 million short of breaching the 200-million copies sold mark — a feat it would share only with Minecraft.

It's also worth noting that only two other games have sold more than 100 million copies ever: Tetris and the aforementioned Minecraft.

GTA V continues to draw in users despite being over a decade old and for a very valid reason — it's that good of a game. It doesn't hurt that Rockstar still continues to support GTA Online with constant updates. This combination will likely propel GTA 5 past 200 million in sales before GTA 6 comes out.

But it's also these qualities that set such a high mark for GTA 6 to clear. Although Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, is confident that GTA 6 will set creative benchmarks in the entertainment industry, numbers don't lie.

If GTA 6 doesn't set records immediately when it comes out, Rockstar and Take-Two will have some explaining to do.

GTA 6 was officially revealed in December last year following an earlier leak and a year after a massive security breach. Now that the hype from the trailer has mellowed, fans are starting to what they usually do: speculate, datamined, and investigate.

The latest word on the grapevine suggests that GTA 6 might feature enterable buildings and interactive NPCs. But that's not all. Eagle-eyed observers noticed a potential connection GTA 6 may have with GTA: Vice City. Finally, evidence implies that GTA 6 will be the most expensive GTA game ever but not in the way that most people think.
