The PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — The Definitive Edition will be joining the PS Plus game library on June 7.
Hot off the heels of the announcement that Grand Theft Auto 5 is leaving PlayStation Plus on the 18th of June, a new blog post from Sony about the upcoming changes to the roster of the gaming subscription service shows that members won't be without a GTA title — nor will they be leaving the fictional state of San Andreas either.
Starting from today, May 29, Extra and Premium Members of the PS Plus subscription service will gain access, free of any additional charge, to a bunch of games in the PS4/PS5 category of their Game Catalog in a staggered release format. On May 29, the new addition is Dredge, followed by Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 on May 31 and Cricket 24 on June 5.
This will all be capped off on the 7th of June with the final addition, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition. This gives fans over a week of overlap between GTA 5 and San Andreas both being present on the PS Plus offering.
Additionally, this also finishes off the full PS Plus tour of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, as both GTA 3 and Vice City from this remastered collection had their go. Between these and GTA 5, a consistent pattern has also emerged.
Every GTA game on PS Plus has had a 6 month stint before being whisked away again. This means San Andreas will be kicking around for the rest of the year, roughly, before exiting — and what will follow? GTA 4 in some form?
Fan reception towards Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition wasn't stellar at the time of release, the result of a double whammy of the remasters not being very good, and the complete scrubbing of the original, non-remastered versions from all storefronts.
Nonetheless, when you don't take comparisons to some of the most beloved gaming classics of all time into account, The Definitive Edition of these games still gets you an incredible experience and a glimpse into the past history of GTA. San Andreas is arguably the best of the 3D era — though all entries have their staunch supporters — so even if its a lukewarm remaster, we definitely recommend playing it.
These new additions to the roster, among a bunch of others in other membership tiers and a selection of discounts and offers comprise the Days of Play celebration, an annual event hosted by Sony around their PlayStation ecosystem of gaming consoles and services.
If you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber, get ready for a bit of time travel as you step out of the modern San Andreas in GTA 5 and into the San Andreas of the 90's.
