Thanks to a small news leak, we knew this was coming. With the Be My Valentine event just having ended on the 18th, Rockstar wasted no time kicking off the next one. GTA Online occasionally is graced by weekend and week-long special events, usually commemorating a holiday or DLC launch (same thing for some of us, right?). As acquiring cash in the game is notoriously hard, these events often offer players with a chance to gain twice as much in-game currency via doubling the GTA $ payout on certain jobs.
The event that launched yesterday, Friends in High Places, focuses on the game's Contact Missions. Through GTA Online, as you level up you encounter various figures of Los Santos' seedy underworld. These characters will be handing out your missions, and you may remember them from the single player campaign.
Each day, a different contact's missions will be rewarding players with twice as much RP and cash when completed. The event started off with Simeon and Ron in on for today. Following them while the event lasts is, in order, Trevor, Martin, Lester and Gerald. On the last day of the event, meaning next Thursday, all Contact missions in the game will yield double rewards.
Each day also features a different discount, except for Simeon's day, where his special import/export requests also pay out double. Today, Blazers cost half of their original price. Tomorrow, seeing as Trevor will be the special contact, Jerry Cans will be 50% off. As you can see, the additional discount is always in some way related to the contact in question. On Monday, Stilt Houses will be discounted, Lester's Services on Tuesday and finally Micro SMGs/Machine Pistols on Wednesday. Ammo, grenades, sticky bombs and body armor is also discounted during the whole event.
